"Victor Hugo: The Man behind Les Misérables" with Eileen Angelini

Tuesday, July 14, 2026 • 7:00-8:30 PM

French poet, novelist, and dramatist Victor Hugo’s life story, with spectacular shifts in status and fortune, is in some ways not so different from that of his Les Misérables hero, Jean Valjean. At the age of 29, the publication of the Hunchback of Notre Dame made him famous around Europe, but his personal life was beset with tragedy and drama. After Napoleon’s fall in 1870, and the huge success of Les Misérables, Hugo returned to Paris as a people's hero. When he died in 1885, two million people joined his funeral procession. Join us at the bookshop to learn more about Victor Hugo's life and story from Dr. Eileen Angelini, Fulbright Scholar and Chevalier dans l’Ordre des Palmes Adademiques.

BOOK CLUB EVENT

The Belonging Book Club- Summer Picks

Wednesday, July 15, 2026 • 6:00-7:00 PM

Students entering 6th, 7th, and 8th grades in the fall are invited to join us a the shop on Wednesday, July 15, from 6-7pm for a choose your own adventure book convo. You and a parent or trusted adult pick a book that you read together.

Please let us know the title of your book when you sign up. Each pair should sign up in one slot.

We will gather in the front of the shop, enjoy some AWWander pizza, and chat about our books. This is a great way to discover new titles, share something you have enjoyed reading, and maybe make a new friend.
